I'm bringing you a rather lovely photo I found. I sincerely hope it will create some rabid plot bunnies for a fic.
It's really Cary Grant and Randolph Scott, but I couldn't help remembering moments such as:

Biggles took out one of his three remaining cigarettes, broke it in halves, gave Algy one half,
and then lighted both with the same match.

(As if the act of smoking the same cigarette together would be a tad too much for the young readers to take...)

I read that recently but I can't remember which book it was in!!! Dreadful. Please could you put me out of my misery... Good photo - apart from the hairstyles - but maybe it was just after WWI and their hair hadn't yet grown back :-)

I find it interesting that Johns uses 'lighted' rather than 'lit'.

This photo was taken sometime around 1935, so the hairstyles (although almost invisible here) shouldn't be that much off.

Yes, I wondered about that too, but dictionary says both is possible, so he wasn't deliberately trying to spoil our grammar :D
